The Springfield News-Leader says an aide to Governor Holden abruptly ended an interview between editors and Holden when the questioning got tough. The editors were interviewing Holden to determine whether the newspaper should endorse him or his primary election opponent, Claire McCaskill. The News-Leader says the questions focused on why Holden is not pushing for a rewrite of the basic school funding formula and why he is not talking about transportation, which the newspaper calls the state’s most pressing need. The News-Leader reports Holden said there’s no interest in the legislature for rewriting the education formula, and talking about transportation would just politicize the issue. The newspaper says that when its questions became pointed, a Holden aide suddenly declared the Governor had to leave for another appointment. Holden has not gotten the newspaper’s endorsement.
