Approval of Amendment 1 on the August 3rd ballot – that’s the measure that would allow a casino to be built at Rockaway Beach in southwest Missouri – would not result in gambling facilities going up overnight. In fact, it could be quite a while before a casino operator is approved for the Rockaway Beach project. Kevin Mullally, Executive Director of the Missouri Gaming Commission, says the Commision will not be rushed into making a decision on any casino proposal. He says the Commission would want to study any proposal to make sure its impact on Rockaway Beach and the surrounding area would not be negative. The State Constitution currently restricts casinos to the Missouri and Mississippi Rivers. Rockaway Beach would be added to the list of potential casino sites should Amendment 1 be approved.
