Former Missouri Tiger track star Derrick Peterson qualified for the U.S. Track and Field team yesterday by finishing third in the 800-meter run. Peterson’s time of 1:45.08 was a personal best. Four years ago, Peterson finished fifth in the semis of the 2000 trials and was just one-hundredth of a second away from making the team. Peterson won the 1999 outdoor championship in the 800 and was runner-up in 2000. In 2002, Peterson was the USA National Indoor champion… Fellow former Tiger and Leasburg, Missouri native Ray Hughes qualified for the finals of the 3000-meter steeplechase. The finals are Thursday.
