St. Louis Congressman Lacy Clay says the Archbishop of the St. Louis Catholic Archdiocese is over the line in saying politicians who support abortion rights should be banned from receiving communion. Archbishop Raymond Burke also says voters who support those politicians should not take communion before going to confession. Clay says Burke has gone beyond faith and is now delving intopolitics. Clay says the church might want to surrender its tax-exempt status if it wants to be politically acative. The U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops says lawmakers who differ with church teachings are “cooperating in evil,” but it says denial of communion is a decision fo reach diocese to make.
