The NCAA has awarded St. Louis one of four regionals for the 2007 men’s basketball tournament. This is the sixth time this decade St. Louis has gotten an NCAA men or women’s tournament stop. In 2005 the Gateway City will host the men’s Final Four and the women’s Final Four in 2009. St. Louis has already hosted the Women’s Final Four in 2001, NCAA men’s first and second rounds in 2002 and in March the city was host to one of four men’s regionals. Doug Elgin, commissioner of the Missouri Valley Conference and chair of the St. Louis Local Organizing Committee said, “The award of the 2007 St. Louis Regional is testimony to the faith and trust the NCAA Division I Men’s Basketball Committee has in the Missouri Valley Conference and in St. Louis”. The St. Louis Local Organizing Committee is comprised of the Missouri Valley Conference, Saint Louis University, the St. Louis Sports Commission and the St. Louis Convention and Visitors Commission.
