Former Blues head coach Joel Quenneville is gainfully employed once again. Quenneville, who was fired by the Blues in February, is the new head coach for the Colorado Avalanche. He’ll take over for Tony Granato, but Granato isn’t going anywhere—he’ll remain with the organization as one of Quenneville’s assistants. This is a return for Quenneville, who was an assistant with the Avalanche for a season and a half (and for one year with Quebec before they moved to Colorado) before the Blues hired him to replace Mike Keenan midway through the 1996-1997 season. He became the Blues all-time winningest coach, but his teams often sputtered in the playoffs, where he was 34-34.
