Former Secretary of State Bekki Cook has kicked off her campaign for the Democratic nomination for Lieutenant Governor, pledging to fight hard for education and for senior citizens. Cook says she’ll have plenty of time to deal with important issues such as education in addition to the work she will do on behalf of senior citizens, which is one of the duties of Lieutenant Governor. The contest for the Democratic nomination for Lieutenant Governor has Cook taking on Senate Minority Leader Ken Jacob of Columbia. Cook believes she benefits from having held statewide office and, unlike her Democrat opponent, she is not confrontational. In addition, Jacob spent much of the last session obstructing and filibustering legislation put forward by the Republican majority. Cook says you can get a lot more accomplished by working on resolving differences, rather than blocking things. Cook is in the middle of a four city campaign kick-off tour that takes her to Jefferson City, Kansas City, St. Louis, and her hometown of Cape Girardeau.
