Now that the same-sex marriage ban will appear on the August primary ballot, the main candidates in Missouri’s gubernatorial contest look at how they use the issue to their advantage. Democrat incumbent Governor Bob Holden says the same-sex marriage ban amendment is not necessary. After dodging the question of how he plans to vote on the issue, Holden finally admits he will vote against it. He doesn’t see any big impact on voter turnout for the August 3rd primary. His main Republican challenger, Secretary of State Matt Blunt, makes it clear he is for the gay marriage ban. He says it could bring out more conservative voters – voters he would also like to have when facing a Democrat in November’s general election. As for the other major candidate, Democrat challenger Claire McCaskill – the State Auditor – has dodged the question altogether and flatly refuses to comment to the Missourinet on this issue.
