CLASS 4—-Vianney High School (St. Louis) handed Rockhurst High Schol (Kansas City) a 9-6 loss in the Class 4 championship on Saturday at Taylor Field on the UMC campus. The Golden Griffins led 9-0, before the Hawklets rallied for three runs in the eighth inning and scored three more in the ninth to make it close. Vianney finished with a record of 22-7 under first-year head coach Steve Bieser. The Golden Griffins were 9-16 last season. Rockhurst wrapped up the 2004 season with a 26-3 mark.… CLASS 3—Ozark grabbed the Class 3 state championship thanks to some consistent scoring, which led to an 8-2 win on over Mary Institute-Country Day Saturday afternoon. The Tigers trailed 2-1 in the third inning before taking a 3-2 advantage in the bottom of the inning. Ozark scored another run in the fourth and two more in the fifth and sixth. Ozark pitcher Thomas Stilson held MICDS to just four hits to earn the win. Stilson was also one of four Tigers to drive in two runs. It was Ozarks first state championship in baseball.
