The Royals dropped the rubber game of their three game series with the Red Sox with a 5-3 loss at Kauffman Sunday. Kansas City took an early lead thanks to Mike Sweeney’s two-run homer in the first inning. Tony Graffanino made it 3-0 with a ground out that scored Kelly Stinnett. But a strange play cost the Royals two players, and possibly the game. In the sixth inning, Boston got an RBI single from David Ortiz to get their first run of the game. With the bases loaded Cesar Crespo hit a grounder to the first base side, which Ken Harvey fielded. Harvey was about to throw home for a force out when he violently collided with reliever Jason Grimsley. The second run scored and Harvey and Grimsley were taken to the hospital. The Red Sox scored three more times in the inning for the 5-3 final. Grimsley was charged with the loss. Both players were OK.
