Governor Bob Holden has signed two bills into law. One of the them expands public access to government records, while the other protects mobile and manufactured home residents. The sunshine law will increase penalties for violations of the state’s open meetings laws. It establishes penalties of up to $1,000 for any public official who knowingly violates the law and penalties of up to $5,000 for any purposeful violation of the law. Current law allows no more than $500 for purposeful violations. The two bills protecting residents of mobile and manufactured homes will establish guidelines for the proper installation of manufactured homes and will require that residents of mobile home parks be given at least 120-days’ notice to vacate the park.
