The Royals quest for their first series sweep of the season will just have to wait. Their bid to take 3-of-3 from the Tigers was dashed in quick fashion in a 17-7 loss at Kauffman Stadium Thursday afternoon. Detroit belted out 27 hits, which tied a team record for a single game. Carlos Pena went six-for-six and drove in six runs for Detroit. Royals’ Starter Brian Anderson was tagged for six runs and dropped to 1-7 on the season. He completed just four innings. Reliever Justin Huisman also gave up six over 1 1/3 innings, but left the game after getting hit in the head with a line drive—he walked off under his own power and was OK.
