Missouri has been chosen to take part in a project to find and implement new strategies to increase access to higher education. Missouri is one of eleven states selected for the project, one of eleven states sharing a one-million dollar grant from the Lumina Foundation – a private organization that works to expand access to higher education through research, grants, and communication initiatives. Missouri Higher Education Commissioner Quentin Wilson says this will help state officials better target those in need. Wilson says the key beneficiaries will likely be those who can’t afford higher education and those who are unaware of how to take advantage of financial assistance that’s available. Wilson says what’s learned will not only help students get to college but to stay there and complete their studies.
