Scott Rolen’s eighth- inning double to score Edgar Renteria gave the Cardinals a 1-0 win over the Mets. Rolen has 39 RBI’s on the season which leads the majors—Luis Castilla of the Rockies and Lance Overbay of the Brewers have 38. The most impressive performances came from the Cardinals’ pitchers, as Jeff Suppan, Cal Eldred, and Steve Kline combined for a four-hitter. Suppan, despite lasting six innings and allowing zero runs, got the no-decision. Eldred pitched perfectly, with the exception of one walk, in the seventh and eighth innings to get his first win of the season and Kline earned his first save…. Cardinal farmhand Brad Thompson of the Class-A Tennessee Smokies broke a 97-year old minor league record yesterday. Thompson, dating back to last season, pitched 57 2/3’s scoreless innings until he was touched for a run in the sixth inning by Richard Lewis of the West Tenn Diamond Jaxx. Thompson broke Irvin Wilhelm’s record set in 1907 with the Birmingham Barons.
