The road has been an ugly place for the Royals this season, so no one would have been surprised to see Kansas City lose in Texas Tuesday, especially after falling into a 5-0 hole. However, Matt Stairs belted a three-run homer in the fifth inning to get the Royals on the board and got the ball rolling on a 7-6 win. Carlos Beltran made it 6-5 in the sixth inning with a three-run shot of his own and Mike Sweeney hit a solo homer later in the inning to give the Kansas City a 7-5 advantage. Herbert Perry’s home run in the seventh inning cut the lead to one, but Texas got no closer. Jeremy Affeldt was rescued from dropping to 0-4, despite lasting just four innings and giving up four earned runs. Jason Grimsley got the win in relief and Nate Field got his first career save.
