The Royals fell to the Blue Jays 5-4 in Toronto. Kansas City found itself in a 5-0 hole early on when the Blue Jays rallied for four runs in the second inning. Chris Gomez got things going for Toronto with a two run single of Darrell May, who dropped to 0-4 on the season. Reed Johnson followed up with a run-scoring single and Frank Catalanotto hit an RBI sacrifice fly. Johnson made it 5-0 with a solo home run in the fourth inning. May settled down and didn’t allow any more runs through seven innings. In fact, his teammates almost put him in position to be the winner by scoring four runs off Pat Hentgen in the fifth inning. Angel Berroa who hit a two-run double and Desi Relaford and Joe Randa drove in a run apiece. But Kansas City had just one base runner the rest of the way and failed to get any closer than one run.
