Jimmy Gobble was just one out away from a complete-game shut out in the Royals 3-2 win over the Blue Jays Monday. That last out proved to be a difficult puzzle to solve, as he allowed a double to Carlos Delgado and an RBI single to Josh Fields. Gobble was then replaced with reliever Mike MacDougal, who promptly allowed a hit and two walks—the final pass came with the bases loaded and the scored was tied 2-2. He was replaced by Nate Field, who got the final out and moved the game to extra innings. Aaron Guiel’s home run gave the Royals a 3-2 lead, but Field put two runners on in the bottom of the 10th, before Jaime Cerda entered the contest and got the final two outs and the save. Field got the win and Gobble got the no decision. It was just the Royals’ second road win of the season.
