Attorneys in the Joplin popcorn factory case have announced a confidential settlement. Linda Redman’s case was the second in a series of lawsuits from people who claim a butter flavoring used at the factory causes disabling lung injuries. Redman worked at the Jasper Popcorn Company plant in Joplin from 1994 to 1996. she has been told by doctors that a chemical in the flavoring caused a rare lung disorder and that she will need a double-lung transplant. The settlement came moments before a jury was set to announce its verdict. In the first case, jurors awarded $20-Million to a Carthage man. In all, thirty people have filed suit.
