A stunning development at the State Senate as a nearly empty Senate votes to adjourn just hours after proceedings got underway. The move was orchestrated by a handful of Democrats who, while filibustering the litigation reform bill, moved that the Senate be adjourned until Thursday morning. Senator Harold Caskey of Butler, a veteran Senator who is being term-limited out of his seat, was caught off guard, himself. Senator Ken Jacob of Columbia, the Senate Democratic Leader, says it was a smart move that he and others had talked about in the past. For his part, Senate Leader Peter Kinder of Cape Girardeau admits Republicans were caught of guard by the move. He vows Senate Republicans will now do whatever is necessary to push the party’a genda through the Legislature.
