Senator Christopehr Bond takes an uncharacteristic stand against President George W. Bush as the President threatens to veto either of the two versions of the federal Highway Bill. The House has approved a package that spends $275-Billion over six years, the Senate version is for $318-Billion. But Bush has threatened to veto anything over $256-Billion. Bond says if that happens, he’ll vote to override because what has passed is good. Bond says there were 76 votes in the Senate when it passed, which would be enough to override a veto. However, Senate and House conferees must still get together to work out a final version. Bond says the conference efforts are being held up by Democrat leaders.
