State Transportation officials might start giving more consideration to highway projects that build economic development for an area as well as meeting the state’s transportation needs. A research and development specialist for MoDOT has told highway commissioners road and bridge building is big business in Missouri. He points to a study that shows how counties with Interstates and four-lane roads do much better economically. But MoDOT officials say they won’t build a road just to create jobs in an area.
