The Democratic race for Governor is starting to get hotter. State Auditor Claire McCaskill, who’s challenging incumbent Governor Bob Holden, questions the timing of Holden’s decision to release the remaining education dollars that had been withheld because of budget concerns. McCaskill says it’s an interesting coincidence that the money became available shortly after voters in 114 school districts went to the polls on Tuesday, with many of those districts approving levy increases for schools. For his part, Holden insists he didn’t know until Thursday that the money would be available, and acted once his budget office informed him the state had the necessary funds. He suggests McCaskill is playing politics.
