The State Treasurer’s Office Division of Unclaimed Property marks a milestone with its program giving unclaimed money and property to the rightful heirs. State Treasurer Nancy Farmer says the program, which was established in 1985, has reached $100-Million in returns to rightful owners. Missouri is one of only eleven states to reach the $100-Million level of payout. Anyone wanting to learn whether a loved one died and left unclaimed property behind can check with the Division’s web site: www.showmemoney.com. The state is currently holding more than $300-Million belonging to more than 1.5-Million owners. Some property will be auctioned off, after a time in storage, but the money from the sale – along with the contents of bank accounts – will be kept by the Department until it is claimed.
