The Missouri Bar has launched a program to provide free legal assistance to nonprofit groups whose clients are in need of legal help. Attorneys in private practice routinely contribute their time to provide notforprofit groups with free legal advice. But corporate lawyers – those who work for businesses – have, for reasons ranging from time constraints to malpractice concerns, shied away from pro bono work. Missouri Bar President Bill Corrigan says it’s time to change that. It’s set up the Corporate Pro Bono Program to try to remove the barriers to encourage more corporate lawyers to do pro bono work. A web page, though the Missouri Bar, will allow notforprofits to hook up with corporate attorneys wanting to help. The Missouri Bar’s web site is www.mobar.org.
