Governor Bob Holden and the Legislature appear headed for another deadlock on corporate taxes. The Governor wants the Republican-led Legislature to pass a law keeping companies operating in Missouri, but based elsewhere, from avoiding corporate income taxes. Republicans say the Governor and Democrats are proposing a big tax hike on businesses a that will be bad. The Republican-led House has passed a bill backed by business groups. The Democrats say it only makes things worse. Republican Senator Matt Bartle doubts the Governor’s proposal has a chance. Senate Democrat Leader Ken Jacob says the Republican bill doesn’t either. Despite the disagreements about whether either side will ever compromise the talk will go on in the Senate.
