A plan to expand emergency telephone services has won approval in the State Senate, but it’s a long way from becoming state law. Senator Wayne Goode of Normandy proposes three options for county-option taxes to finance cel-phone 911 services. He says that approach might succeed where statewide cel phone taxes have failed. His plan has been added to a large bill that deals with the various powers counties have. The Senate is likely to continue debating that bill for some time.
