The Royals started their first exhibition game on the right note, but still couldn’t come away with a win. Angel Berroa led off the game with a home run off R.A. Dickey, but lost to the Rangers 9-5. In the third, Berroa reached on an infield single and made it 2-0 thanks to Ken Harvey’s sacrifice fly. Texas rallied for three runs in the fifth to take the lead and four more in the sixth to put it away. The Cardinals were held to five hits in their first exhibition game against Major League competition, and lost to the Mets 4-2 in Jupiter. Kiko Calero, who tore a knee tendon eight months ago, pitched two innings and didn’t allow a run.
