State Auditor Claire McCaskill is releasing an audit of the state’s SeniorRX drug program for senior ctiizens. It shows how management improvements could benefit the program, which was set up in 2001. Enrollment in the program was less than half the anticipated number for fiscal year 2003 and declined in fiscal year 2004. In some cases, according to McCaskill, seniors and the program could have saved more money on prescriptions by using alternative programs. In addition, program officials have not implemented a results-based planning process outlining specific goals and cannot ensure the program’s overall accountability.
