A 15-percent voter turnout in this week’s presidential primary election is a little disappointing to the state’s election authority – Secretary of State Matt Blunt. But Blunt still believes the primary election is a good idea. Heading into the presidential primary, officials had predicted about a quarter of those eligible to cast ballots would head to the polls. As it turned out, only about 15-percent – approximately 544,000 – voted. Secretary of State Matt Blunt says the fact President Bush ran virtually unopposed in the Republican contest and Senator John Kerry had a huge lead in the polls for the Democratic race played into the low turnout. Blunt says there’s a high cost associated with any election, but it’s worth the cost. The election cost about $3.7-Million, roughly $6.80 per vote cast.
