A deal to end a 25-hour filibuster in the Senate could keep Southwest Missouri state University from becoming “Missouri State University.” Or it could clear the way for the name change. The sponsor of the name-change bill has agreed to shelve his bill until the Legislature gives the University of Missouri $190-Million in bonding authority for new buildings. But the bonding bill faces some stiff opposition. The agreement in the Senate was finally worked out about 2:30 this morning.
