Mike Martz filled the final piece of his coaching staff puzzle by hiring linebackers coach Joe Vitt. Vitt was the Chiefs linebackers’ coach for four years. The Rams wanted to hire Vitt last week, but the Chiefs refused to let them interview him while he was still under contract. That contract expired yesterday and Vitt signed with the Rams immediately. This isn’t the first time Vitt and Martz have worked together. They were both assistants with the Los Angeles rams from 1992-’94. This is the fourth off-season hire for the Rams. Larry Marmie was brought in as the defensive coordinator, Mike Stock was hired to take over the special teams and John Benton is now the Ram’s offensive line coach (he took over for Jim Hanifan, who retired).
