A proposal to reduce salaries paid to state legislators is being studied by a Senate committee. Senator Matt Bartle says it’s more symbolic than anything. He proposes a three-percent reduction for one year. Bartle says the Legislature is going to be cutting the budget for other parts of state governement, and thatcould mean more layoffs or program cutbacks. He thinks lawmakers should show people they’re willing to feel a pinch, too. He says the cuts would save the state $217,000that would not have to be cut from other programs.
