One of the overlooked issues raised by President Bush in his State of the Union Address was a call for more money for the nation’s community colleges. Seemingly buried in the talk of national security, economic recovery, job creation, and the like was a proposal for $250-Millio for the nation’s community colleges. Missouri’s Higher Education Commissioner Quentin Wilson likes what he heard. The proposal has a long way to go before it becomes a reality – if it becomes a reality. And, it will require the states, community colleges, and business and industry to work together to determine how best to use those dollars. Wilson says it’s important for institutions of higher learning to meet the needs of employers in the state.
