State lawmakers are considering a bill to lift the veil on some official photographs. Right now, Missouri gives certain religious exemptions for those who feel they cannot show their face on their driver’s license or state i.d. A bill offered up to the Senate Transportation Committee looks to change that. State Senators hear testimony from Captain Bret Johnson of the Highway Patrol that law enforcement officials need a full face photograph on official identificiaton. Part of the bill would allowpeople with religious restrictions on the opposite sex seeing their unveiled face – certain Muslim sects for example – to be photgraphed in a private area where theycould remove their veil. Committee members look for more information before they take any action to move the bill forward.
