Legislative Republicans are defending what some Democrats are calling rude behavior during Governor Bob Holden’s State of the State Address. It all began with a shout from Representative Rod Jetton of Marble Hill during a pause in Governor Holden’s speech after the Governor had criticized Republicans for forcing cuts to education. He shouted, “Release the money, Governor!” It was a referenceto the fact Governor Holden is witholding more than a hundred million dollars from public schools. Senate Leader Peter Kinder of Cape Girardeau says he’s been heckled in the past and has lived with it. House Speaker Catherine Hanaway of Warson Woods says it was appropriate for somebody to cry out in light of the Governor’s untruthsand accusations.
