Former Cardinal pitcher Harry Brecheen has died at the age of 89. Brecheen is best remembered for his performance in the 1946 World Series, when he won three games—including Game 7—as the Cardinals defeated the Red Sox four-games-to-three. Brecheen pitched 11 seasons with the Cardinals and one with the St. Louis Browns. He compiled a record of 133-92 with a 2.92 ERA. His best season was 1948 when he went 20-7 and led the National League a 2.24 ERA, 149 strikeouts and seven shutouts. He had 21 complete games in 1948, which was second best in the league.
