Chiefs Top Rams, Win Governor’s Cup

With most of the top players sitting out, the Chiefs took home their second straight Governor’s Cup, beating the Rams 22-6 in St. Louis. Kurt Warner and Marshall Faulk sat out for St. Louis, while Priest Holmes and Tony Gonzalez did not play for the Chiefs. K.C. quarterback Johnathan Quinn was 15-21 for 231 yards and a touchdown. Running back Derrick Blaylock picked up 64 yards on five carries. Marc Bulger saw most of the action at quarterback for St. Louis. He was 15-28 for 158 yards and threw two interceptions. The Chiefs finished the preseason with a 2-3 mark, the Rams finished 1-3.

Cards Beat Cubs Bullpen…Again

Kerry Robinson’s first home run of the season couldn’t have come at a better time. Robinson led off the 9th inning with a solo blast, lifting the Cardinals to a 3-2 win over the Cubs. It was also Robinson’s first career walkoff home run. The Cardinals once again beat the Cubs bullpen, which gave up eight runs in three innings in the series. Cubs starters gave up just two earned runs over 22 innings. Scott Rolen also went deep for the Cards, who moved into a first-place tie with Houston in the National League Central. Mike DeJean pitched 1.2 innings of scoreless relief, earning his first win as a Cardinal.

Royals Go Overtime To Beat Rangers

Mike Sweeney thought he had been hit on the hand in the 8th inning. Instead, he was called out on strikes. Thankfully for the Royals, Sweeney kept his cool. Three innings later, Sweeney’s RBI single gave the Royals a 6-5 win over Texas, and moved Kansas City back into a first-place tie with Chicago. Paul Abbott threw six shutout innings, but was taken out after a rain delay of one hour, 42 minutes. Texas scored four runs in the 8th, and tied the game in the 9th when Alex Rodriguez smashed his second home run of the night. But Sweeney’s single in the 11th scored Joe Randa, giving the Royals the win.
