Anger erupts in the Missouri House as emotions run raw concerning how leadership wants to approach the budget. Representative Mark Abel of Festus, the top Democrat in the House, left the floor angry Thursday. The Republican majority refused to recognize him for a motion. Abel wanted to reconsider the vote on a rule that wouldn’t allow members to divide the question during budget debate. He said he agreed to the rule before Republicans decided to lump all budget bills into one big bill. Democrats pounded their desks and hollered as Republicans moved to adjourn for the week. House Speaker Catherine Hanaway of Warson Woods said he is concerned about the breakdown in relations between the new majority Republicans and Democrats. Hanaway denies she deceived Abel. She contends that Abel has never approached her with his concerns, perferring instead to resort to dramatics on the House floor.
