The Senate has rejected an effort to decouple Missouri’s income tax from the federal tax structure. But the issue could come back later in this session. Advocates of decoupling say the present system costs the states tens of millions of dollars every time there’s a federal tax cut, even if the state enacts no tax cuts to go along. But, Cape Girardeau Senator Peter Kinder says the issue is too complicated to be approved right now.
