Missouri’s junior U.S. Senator has introduced his first piece of Senate legislation. Senator Talent sponsors the Association Health Plans legislation that aims to reduce the number of uninsured Americans by allowing small businesses to pool their employees with other small companies in the same trade associations to buy health insurance coverage at affordable rates. Talent says the big insurers are opposed to the idea because they believe it will cut into profits. Talent had spearheaded this effort twice previously when he served in the U.S. House. But it always ran into opposition in the Senate. He is more confident that his legislation will come to fruition this time around.
