Researchers at the University of Missouri-Columbia are touting a cloning success as something that could be of great health benefits to humans in the future. They’ve successfully cloned a pig, missing the two genes that cause a pig’s organs to be rejected if transplanted into humans. M.U. professor Randy Prather, who heads up the research efforts, says his team has accomplished something no one else has been able to do. Prather says researchers are excited over recent developments. He makes it clear the purpose of the experimentation is not so much to clone pigs as it is to create a new supply of human-compatible organs that could save or prolong the lives of people.
