Highway commissioners have voted in favor of a resolution that backs finishing US Highway 36 becoming four lanes across the northern part of the state. For the most part, just a 52-mile two-lane stretch remains between Macon and Hannibal. Former Highway Commision Chair Tom Boland now works for a group backing the expansion. He says he realizes the Transportation Department does not have the money the project would need, he’s just looking for a committment from commissioners the project would go forward if future money becomes available. Backers of the plan realize there’s other projects facing the same funding problems, but they are encouraged by the commission’s actions.
