State Auditor Claire McCaskill has taken the oath of office for her second four-year term in the job. McCaskill’s inauguration speech focused on the work her office has done during the first four years and some of the work that lies ahead. McCaskill views her office as one of the most important in state government because it is a fiscal watchdog for departments and agencies. McCaskill expects one of the first major audits of early 2003 to be one dealing with the state foster care system. The system has come under fire of late – particularly following the death of a young southwest Missouri child who died while in foster care.
