The Environmental Protection Agency is offering to give Missouri money to keep the state’s water-quality certification program up and running through the end of the fiscal year. The EPA’s rescue package was announced as the state Department of Natural Resources came under fire for killing the program in a bid to save $99,000 a year. The program, which is authorized under the Clean Water Act, could face more troubles down the road because of the tight budget. DNR has already cut $1.3-Million for the current fiscal year and further cuts can be expected as Governor Bob Holden produces a balanced budget.
