The State Budget Office says state government needs to find $1-Billion to avoid some drastic cuts in state programs and services in the next fiscal year. Budget Director Linda Luebbering has come up with a list of possible cuts in programs and services that could result if $1-Billion has to be cut from next year’s spending program. She admits she doesn’t see how the state could do the things it might have to do without that money. Governor Bob Holden suggests closing some business tax loopholes, but that would only plug part of the gap. Luebbering thinks some kind of other tax increase might be inevitable. The Governor will make his plan public a week from today.
