Kansas City-based Farmland Industries, which has filed for bankruptcy protection, hopes to cut some of the retirement benefits to its former top executives and cancel life insurance policies for about 2,200 retirees. A U.S. Bankruptcy Judge has scheduled a hearing for January 28th to consider the pleas and the retirees’ objections. Farmland officials say doing away with the benefits could same the bankrupt farm cooperative $16-Million in cash and save it several million dollars more in expenses.
