Governor Bob Holden and Lieutenant Governor Joe Maxwell want sweeping reforms in state nursing home laws. They propose the Senior Care and Protection Act. Changes in the legislation include a toughening of the state’s neglect statute to make it easier to bar individuals who have abused, neglected, or financially exploited seniors from working with elders. In addition, the changes would make nursing home operators more accountable for what goes on in their establishments and keep those who have broken nursing home laws in other states from coming to Missouri.
