The Billboard Magazine Music Awards had a distinct Missouri flavor this year. Rap recording artist Nelly has taken six of the music industries top awards, including Entertainer of the Year. His real name is Cornell Haynes, Junior. He’s from St. Louis and leads a group called The St. Lunatics. He had ten nominations, more than any other artist. The best album of the year award went to “The Eminem Show.” Eminem is Marshall Mathers, with St. Joseph roots. It was one of two awards he received. Another Missouri recording artist and his group took home four of the awards: Puddle of Mud, led by Wes Scantlin, was named top Rock Artist of the Year. Scantlin was born in St. Joseph and raised in Kansas City. The awards ceremonies were presided over by another Missourian. Cedrick the Entertainer, who is really Cedric Kyles, is from St. Louis.
