The lawyer who has won the big lawsuit against the University of Missouri, in which a judge says the University improperly collected tuition from thousands of Missouri residents, says he doesn’t want to bankrupt the school, but he says there must be some remedy. Lawyer Robert Herman tells the St.Louis Post Dispatch the courts are not likely to order the University to repay students as much as one-half billion dollars. He says the judge has a lot of discretion in deciding what the remedy should be. The University is thinking of appealing the ruling. The lawsuit claimed the University had violated an old law that banned it from collecting tuition from Missouri students. The legislature has since changed the law.
