Dent County Sheriff Bob Wofford has been treated and released from the Salem Hospital after being shot during a gun battle. Deputy Jo Ann Barnes suffered more serious injuries as she and Wofford confronted a suspect in a double homicide in Salem. Barnes was initially taken to Salem Hospital, but has been flown to St. Louis for treatment. Details of the shooting are sketchy. So far, authorities say the Dent County Sheriff’s Department, the State Highway Patrol and the Salem police were investigating a double homicide when the sheriff and Barnes drove to a suspect’s home. Along the way, they confronted the suspect and a female companion. A gunfight broke out. Both law enforcement officers were shot as were the suspect and his companion. Their injuries are not known at present.
